Wood in the spotlight during Milan Design Week

Bjarte Bjørkum

At Ventura Lambrate, a Milanese neighborhood that hosts Design Week design schools and young designers in old warehouses and sheds, wood was at the heart of creation and experimentation. To offer unique creations with timeless design.

Working the wood can still surprise at the Design Week in Milan! These unique works are the project of young designers who make wood an experimental and modular material at will. Result: creative and original creations.

Collaborative experience around wood

Detail, Eli-Kirstin Eide

Bjarte Bjørkum

Inside Wood has gathered around the tree the students of the brilliant and Norwegian Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KHiB). In addition to bringing us closer to nature and the course of life, what stories can a tree tell us? How do the imperfections, the fractures of matter, make the object which results from it more beautiful? How can wood, so familiar, still create surprise? A fruitful collaboration of young shoots of KHiB with their teachers, but also with designers, incubators, dancers and musicians.

Straw effect: the braided straw reinterpreted

Annina Gähwiler and Tina Stieger, creators of Pour les Alpes

For the Alps

Behind For the Alps, two designers who reinterpret the traditional work of woven straw anchored in Switzerland, Wohlen in particular, whose hats were famous throughout Europe in the nineteenth century. When wet, the straw becomes waterproof when dry, making it particularly suitable for outdoor use. Each piece of the Karawane collection blends perfectly with the white fir tree.
