Yet it is at Arcueil that our steps lead us to discover the history of the Lorenzi. Masters of art in molding, they inherit a tradition passed down from father to son for three generations. A treasure of mussels piled up by hundreds, plaster models by the thousands. Busts, heads, vases, ornaments, masks, fragments ... their library of forms is declined to infinity. Atlas awaits his world, Voltaire irony, Notre-Dame gargoyle ... On the cards that stand as a sign, we cross on the fly Hippocrates and Narcissus, Einstein, Napoleon and Victor Hugo, Mozart, Bacchus and Minerva, a royal princess and a pugilist , Chopin and Homer, a sitting Virgin, a Lion of St. Mark ... An inventory at the Prévert on which time has no hold.

All the expressiveness in hollow is already contained in the silicone elastomer mold.

In the workshops, covered with a veil of white powder, Loïc - mouleur, staffeur - works, Valery and Isabelle sand and skate, José works the resin. Apprentices, they, wipe the plaster of a complex craft. Because the art of molding is made of a multitude of precise gestures. Between cocoon and sarcophagus, the first step is to build the screed. The molding has its secrets. Sometimes the oldest molds have so many clutch keys that they form an enigmatic puzzle. Then the first gesture in which one grasps the plaster with both hands and where it is allowed to fall in fine rain on the surface of the water is magic and the tempering has something of hypnotic. The substance obtained, white and homogeneous, is creamy. Pouring is a delicate moment and demolding is always a surprise. In the end, sanding seams will be a long game of patience.

Sprinkled with a white veil, the den of the workshop seems unreal.

Nathalie Baetens

After demolding, the seams are apparent. They will only disappear after careful sanding.
