Some tips for converting or renovating the terrace.

What size for a terrace?

To have a table with 6 to 8 chairs, while having the recess and room to circulate, it takes a terrace of 15 to 20 m² at least. If you install a barbecue, plan a little wider, so as to isolate the cooking area.

What coating for the terrace?

- A pavement lasts a long time provided you choose non-freezing stones. The implementation is usually done on a concrete screed, which requires preparation time and equipment rental. With large and very heavy natural slabs, laying on compacted sand is possible. Multi-format reconstituted stone packs allow you to create your own patterns.

- A wood coating provides a warmer look. Composite wood or natural wood, the range is wide and the qualities are identical. Among the rough woods, prefer those which are labeled or the hard European species (Douglas, Acacia ...), as resistant as the exotic woods. The installation can be done on compacted soil, by blocking the floorboards on a frame in joists, thus without too much material.

Renovate the terrace that already exists?

You already have a terrace, but it looks gray? You can give it a youthful look. For example, Owatrol's "Compo-clean" and "Compo-care" woodworkers work miracles on the blades, protecting them from the weather after giving them back color. There are also nestable modules, stone or wood (Castorama, Leroy Merlin) that we put directly on the old terrace if its surface is flat. Ideal when you want to quickly change the scenery.
