Choose the structures of your terrace to create a little privacy, cover you with the sun or still decorate it like a real outdoor room.
To take full advantage of this outdoor space, it is often essential to make some additional facilities. Sunshades, pergolas and windbreaks, for example, are to be included in the composition from the beginning, so that their style does not mismatch with the rest.
To live in hiding: the windbreak
It's useless to want to save it all the time: depending on the layout of the terrace, windbreaks and protection are often necessary. It is not always pleasant to take your coffee under the nose of the neighbors!
Screens in natural material - wicker, wood, briar branding - very trendy are sold in easy-to-install panels or rolls. They are easily found in garden centers or DIY superstores. For lovers of more contemporary solutions, there are rods fiberglass forming screen at Sabz ("Sticks" H. Teo & S. Kaiser).
Attention, on a terrace subjected too often to violent winds, it is better to opt for the most solid structures that one will fix on the ground as well as with the facade or with independent pillars. The trellises forming bodies with plant containers also resist very well, and offer the advantage of combining two functions, screening and support plantations.
A garden terrace can also benefit from a small barrier of protection, to avoid the untimely intrusions of children's balloons or pets.
Create a little shade with a pergola ...
Ah! The pergolas! They give relief and style to the terrace, bring a welcome shade during lunch especially as the reverberation of the sun's rays on the facades is often blinding.
In raw chestnut or wrought iron, they exist in the most diverse styles to choose according to the desired effect. The pillars will be fixed either in concrete studs, in supports buried in earth or fixed directly on the floor covering. In this case, also plan a good wall mounting. It remains to choose the plants that cover them ... Certain wisteria and vines dress well in the spring and summer, but the presence of some persistent foliage will liven up the winter.
However, we can also prefer to install a blind that can modulate the light as needed. The storists have developed rich ranges, plain or striped (in DIY stores and specialty stores).
The good use of the tray
On the terrace, planted with shrubs (to obtain a beautiful volume of vegetation), they are both a decor and a visual screen. These bins form the perimeter structure as well as separations between two parts of a large space.
In floor, they also serve as railings. Better to foresee them from the beginning of the project, covered with wood, zinc or painted in the colors of the general decoration. Given their weight, it is recommended to spread them all around the terrace and fill them with light earth. Some professionals often add a layer of polystyrene at the bottom or a weight-draining material to further lighten the overall weight.
