TF1 - Frédéric Berthet

Lovers of Paris, it is in the district of Haut-Marais that Laurent Mariotte moved in. Interview greedy, in his favorite room, his cuisine obviously, around roasted duck legs roasted!

On the occasion of the release of his new book "Mieux manger toute l'année 2019" (Solar Editions), Laurent Mariotte, journalist and animator from the daily cooking show "Petits plats en équilibre", he took the time to make us visit his real kitchen, the one where he likes to isolate himself, like in a bubble, in silence, and also to receive his friends.

For this Vosges landed in Paris at 18, live in the heart of old Paris has always been a priority, preferring to live in small areas. After Montmartre in his early days, he had a crush on the Marais district, which he knows by heart and is particularly fond of.

It's in one of these old 17th century houses converted into apartments, that the culinary columnist of TF1 found a duplex looking like a small house, on the courtyard, but with a view of the sky. When he and his wife moved in, everyone brought their touch to create a cocoon of serenity. Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?

Laurent Mariotte : My kitchen inevitably! This was one of the criteria during our visits.

The kitchen, rather open or closed?

Laurent Mariotte: I love open kitchens and especially where you can also eat. This one overlooks the entrance. Original, I liked it because it is accessed by stairs: it is so high, like a small stage. Simple, it is equipped with wooden elements and especially a work plan in mineral. You will find everything: the Blender, juicer to make juice, toaster, coffee machine ... and also a small radio!

Next door there is room for a convivial round table with 5 chairs. But when I cook, I'm a little maniac: you save time by being ordered. And surprisingly, do not talk to me: I like being in my bubble. Even if the living room, with the fireplace, is very nice, the kitchen is my favorite space.

A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends? Your specialty?

Laurent Mariotte: This is exactly what happened to me last night. I prepared candied duck legs that I just grilled in the pan, with two beautiful diced potimarrons, and baked with olive oil, fleur de sel, rosemary and full cloves of garlic. We serve with a small salad of watercress. All in less than half an hour!

Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?

Laurent Mariotte: It is a mix of contemporary furniture and antique furniture. I like to go to the flea market in Saint-Ouen. It's a real pleasure. And even today, we can negotiate good deals. I just found a large coffee table, industrial departure, but totally reworked by pigeons.

The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?

Laurent Mariotte: My trophy of the big contest of the animators, in the form of question mark, which just raises the questions! And also a beautiful big box of pâté Hénaff in my name, which sits in the kitchen.

I had customized this pie last summer, in a recipe of "Kitchen in equilibrium", by making little slippers with herbs. To thank me, the team Hénaff made me this nice wink.

An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?

Laurent Mariotte: My orange velvet armchair that I had bought 20 years ago from an upholsterer who had his shop down from my home when I lived in Montmartre. He follows me everywhere. Even if my wife managed to make me part with some screaming objects, this one is non-negotiable. I had fallen for its color and its material, this warm and soft side.

Curtains, doors, shutters? What does it inspire you?

Laurent Mariotte: Intimacy, warmth and cocooning. It evokes the whole world of the house which, today, becomes more than ever a refuge. It is also the first time that I invest so much in my house. If you want to spend time there, you have to choose materials that you like and feel good about, without spending a lot of money. In this case, we chose cotton curtains.
