Who is hiding behind Habitat?

Sebastien Siraudeau

Habitat is on all fronts of innovation: from design, now headed by Pierre Favresse, to the development of stores in France and internationally. In the Parisian offices reigns a creative atmosphere but ... studious.

The headquarters of Habitat is located in the heart of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine. It occupies three floors above one of the 28 French stores. Nearly a hundred people work here: designers, marketing services, IT, finance, and sales. The brand, founded 50 years ago, is buzzing. It was on Fulham Road in London that the British designer Sir Terence Conran inaugurated in 1964 the first Habitat store. In Paris, it will be necessary to wait until 1973 to see the opening of the first shop, in Montparnasse. Redeemed in 2011 by Hervé Giaoui and his group Cafom, specialized in the distribution of furniture, the brand begins a moult after the Terence Conran years and its original vision of the art of furnishing itself.

The "Inhabitants". Beautiful, useful, accessible: these three words resonate like a slogan for the new projects of the group, which are inspired as much by its heritage - of which we have rediscovered DNA at Habitat Vintage at the Puces de Saint-Ouen - as styles of life of today. For the design, Pierre Favresse and his team imagine furniture and objects as well as furnishing textiles or products made with manufacturers and designers of reference. For Rémy Poirson, marketing director, Habitat's customers are no longer mere consumers, he calls them the "Inhabitants", who are alive and well, for whom the brand's young webzine is destined: La vie est design. This is a new era that is starting. habitat.fr and lavieestdesign.com
