Description of the work to be done

Installed about fifteen years ago, the oil boiler of this Burgundy house began to consume and pollute. The owners decide to change, but want to keep the existing radiators.
The house is properly insulated, they seek a mode of heating economy in use, but hesitate between two solutions compatible with their installation: a gas wall boiler incorporating domestic hot water or, less conventional, a geothermal system recovering the heat. ground heat through a network of buried tubes.

Our comments and clarifications

(1) Gas: an advantageous energy
Gas has a low cost per kWh (although its price is increasing), but also in terms of subscription (a little less than 200 € per year on average). In addition, there is no need to store energy. Only downside: gas is only available in the 9 100 connected municipalities.

(2) A boiler without conduit
A suction boiler takes the air necessary for its operation directly outside the housing. A hole through the wall or roof is enough for the evacuation: no more need of chimney. In addition, it can be placed in a small unventilated space (cupboard).

(3) Warning mesh: an important detail
It is imperative to put a warning wire. Thus, during any earthworks, the ducts are easily identifiable and are less likely to be damaged.

(4) Imperative the certificate of conformity
It is the heating engineer who is responsible for the compliance of your installation. It must give you a Certificate of Conformity for your indoor installation (CCI), which is mandatory for commissioning the meter.

Our comments and clarifications

(1) Adapted material
Some generators fit on a conventional heating system without the need to change the radiators. But these can only be suitable if they are checked for sizing.

(2) Field study
Such an installation requires a surface area of ​​1.5 to 3 times the space to be heated. In this case, the house has at least 180 m2 of garden.

(3) The right power for my boiler
The number of DJUs (unified degree days) allows to know the power necessary for optimal operation of the boiler. It is given by the weather services in your area. This is the average of the temperature differences calculated on a basis of 18 ° C and over a given period.

(4) Water / water
The first term designates the origin of the sample, the second the mode of distribution of heat. On this type of generator, the heat of the ground is recovered thanks to the brine * circulating in the sensor network. It is then transmitted to the generator which diffuses it via the water of the radiators.

(5) Lifespan
Like a conventional boiler, the heat pump has a lifespan of around 15 years. Buried sensors have a longevity of more than 40 years.

* Glossary
Inground sensors : polyethylene or polyethylene sheathed copper tubes buried in the ground and in which a fluid takes the energy from the ground.
Glycolated water : this water containing 20 to 25% glycol does not freeze, even if it is stagnant or if it circulates in a heating network passing through the outside.

How it works ?

Once captured in the network of buried tubes (1), the heat is amplified by the heat pump (2), then the calories are distributed throughout the house.
