A family apartment that celebrates color
Architects Elena Belforte and Giusi Rivoira, from Con3studio, have restructured a building from the beginning of the 20th century. Upstairs, the renovated apartment welcomes a couple with a teenager. The space, on two levels became functional and friendly: the owners did not hesitate to color the walls with strong hues.
Close to the center of Turin, in the Regio Park neighborhood, the small houses that once housed shops and workshops on their ground floor and the upstairs dwellings of craftsmen were totally restructured into family apartments, enhancing the urban fabric of the early 20th century.
As it stands, this accommodation is quite ordinary and devoid of charm. Only a beautiful stone staircase with a wrought iron railing, characteristic of the Art Nouveau period had a certain elegance. The architects decided to keep it and integrate it from the ground floor, to the roofs of the house.
At the first level, partitions have been cut down to create a beautiful living room where light enters on both sides. On the upper floor, the attic has been converted to accommodate the bedrooms.
For the apartment to become a place of life filled with gaiety, the couple bet on the color. Colorful bands enliven the walls in different places, it gives a warm and personal tone to the apartment.

The situation : Turin, Italy
Area : 200 m2
The duration of the work : 4 months
The architects : Elena Belforte and Giusi Rivoira from the Con3studio agency in Turin - Via Perugia 3, 10152 Torino - tel / fax +39 011 88 53 13 - www.con3studio.it / [email protected]
A staircase of character integrated to the family apartment
The staircase is no longer a simple distribution space but it is now entirely part of housing. Two apartments were on the first floor before the works, their front doors were replaced by French windows that let light into the living room and the hallway. In the evening, the staircase is illuminated by a red pleated fabric suspension, a contemporary and refined element that contrasts with the raw appearance of the stone steps and the iron railing.
A room to live friendly and bright
Two walls were cut down to create a beautiful living room with a spacious living room, a central dining area and an open kitchen. You can move from room to room as you can access each one directly from the hallway.

A kitchen in length, open on the dining area
The kitchen in length opens onto the dining area. It is equipped with black storage units, complete with white shelves, all bought at Ikea. On the walls, the owners had fun fixing white aluminum dragonflies with a system of suction cups. An accessory that adds an extra touch of fantasy. A small round table is placed in front of the French window, the members of the family settle there to take their breakfasts and meals on the run.

Between authenticity and modernity: cement tiles blend with industrial parquet
In the living room and in the dining room the original floor has been preserved. In the kitchen, it was necessary to pass new pipes and the tiles had to be replaced. The architects opted for a warm and inexpensive material: an industrial floor in Teak.
The color livens up the walls of this apartment in Italy
To fill the simplicity of the place and personalize their accommodation, the owners have chosen to dress parts of the walls of colored bands: red, brown and peacock blue. They were made with washable interior paint by Sikkens. These stripes stretch from the floor to the ceiling, in the corridor, they even extend on it. They accentuate verticality and lift volumes.

The white design furniture gives radiance to the decor
Family furniture alongside contemporary pieces. White furniture and lighting are preferred: the dining room table, the accompanying Eames chairs by Vitra, the Busnelli sofas, the Eames rocking chair, the Ikea "Regolit" floor lamp, the suspensions paper balls (Ikea) placed above the sofa, those of the kitchen "Midsummer light" Artecnica.
For moments of relaxation, a Habitat swing is suspended in the living room. It reinforces the relaxed side of the house.
The table of the dining room, "Sasso" was designed by the architects, its proportions, generous allow to receive many friends, its form is original and friendly.
A small bathroom but deco
From the office, there is direct access to a small bathroom where we find the colors of the living room and the industrial floor used in the kitchen and the hallway. Above the sink, the owners have chosen to fix several mirrors.
Attic converted and converted into bedrooms
Two spacious bedrooms and a bathroom are installed in the attic. A major restructuring was necessary. The frame was retained but the roof was completely redone and isolated. Openings of different sizes were created and white wooden roof windows installed. In the master bedroom, to give more clarity to the room, the beams and paneling were bleached. On the floor, an industrial floor in teak, identical to that of the kitchen, was laid.
