Weber

The time for barbecues returns and the timeless Weber reappears. Take a look at the heirs of this cult barbecue.

The Weber barbecue, what is it?

A charcoal barbecue, shaped like a ball, imagined in the United States in 1952 by George Stephen, the founder of the company Weber-Stephen. Its enameled steel bowl has a lid with a large handle and rests on three legs. Two wheels move the device. The ashes are collected in a removable drawer placed under the tank.

Why this success?

Bored by the open fire that exposed food to the wind and ash, George Stephen, a partner in a factory manufacturing round water and metal buoys, had the idea of turning one into a barbecue with a lid. Thanks to the latter, the homogeneity of the heat is controlled and the cooking power is controlled. Food can be grilled or stewed without drying out. In a country where barbecue culture was already strongly established, the invention was successfully welcomed. George now devotes himself to manufacturing and creates the Weber-Stephen company near Chicago. Today, it continues to develop quality, innovative and aesthetic devices, which appeal to millions of followers around the world.

Why do we continue to love him?

This barbecue is robust and weatherproof. Practical, it moves easily. We love its elegance, its rounded shapes and trendy colors that give a modern look to the terraces and gardens. Finally, we get with him delicious and tasty grilled meat.

1952 is also ... The inauguration of Le Corbusier's Radiant City in Marseille. Ernest Hemingway publishes "The Old Man and the Sea". The construction of the Iron Curtain between the two Germanys. The invention of the barcode by two American students, Norman Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver.
