Most furniture today is treated to resist UV and moisture. But a beauty treatment is necessary at least once a year to revive colors and materials

Woven resin and synthetic resin

Resin furniture is made of PVC or polyethylene. Easy to maintain, they resist UV and mold. A simple washing with soapy water can remove dust and dirt. However, impurities can become encrusted over time and colors fade.

The right gesture: apply a wax (Stanhome Plastic Shine) for synthetic resin furniture, at the beginning and at the end of the season after cleaning (Netto-yant Calumet garden furniture from Chiminove, Net-Trol from Durieu).

The Loom

Composed of a weaving of kraft sheets around steel wires, immersed in a latex bath, covered with a moisture-resistant paint, it is similar to woven rattan while being stronger.

The right thing to do: to pass a damp cloth on the surface from time to time.

Natural materials: rattan, wicker, bamboo

Rattan bleaches in the sun and does not withstand moisture except when treated outdoors, which is uncommon.

The right thing to do: wash with soapy water and dry in the open air, out of the sun.

The wicker requires maintenance with lukewarm water containing sea salt or vinegar. To make it look good, just rub it with a sponge soaked in cold water and lemon juice.

- The bamboo must be coated with linseed oil. A polish with a rag.

Synthetic fabrics: Textilene, Hularo and Batyline Made from polyester fibers coated with PVC (Batyline), vinyl woven (Textilene) or extruded polyethylene dyed in the mass (Hularo), these rot-proof canvases have a form and color hold impeccable.

The right thing to do: wash with soapy water using a sponge. When they take off, the cloths are machine-spun at 40 ° C.

"European" woods Softwoods such as pine and hardwoods are autoclaved to provide better moisture resistance. They can be rough, varnished, painted, tinted or oiled according to the essence.

The right move: protect with a primer oil (Linus de Livos, Nov'Oléo Oléobois natural vegetable oil, Stanhome Wood Oil). Eventually, pass a stain that will prevent fungi and mold (Biorox natural stain, Magellan). We can also prefer a non-greasy saturator which brings a nice finish, both on exotic woods and on autoclaved wood (Saturateur pour bois de Syntilor).

Exotic woodMembers imputrescible, they change color over time. You have to feed them with specific oils.

The right thing to do: coat the teak once or twice a year with a paintbrush (eco-friendly teak oil like a Spado garden, Syntilor teak oil). The bangkirai also needs a precious wood oil (Alis no. 575 from Livos). When this maintenance was not done from the start, or to renovate, it is necessary to degrease (Teak-exotic wood cleaner and Teak cleaner like a Spado garden).

Metal- Galvanized steel resists rust and can be powder coated to provide a good range of colors. He simply talks to water and soap rubbing with a rag, just like the wrought iron treated anticorrosion.Le good gesture: coat the furniture with a thin layer of cream for metal that cleans, protects and shines ( Stanhome Multi Metal, Barkee Tyrie ProCare Stainless Steel Clean & Guard). For untreated wrought iron, use a wire brush, emery cloth and a soft cloth to finish.

The tubular aluminum furniture is cleaned with a cloth and soapy water, or with products that remove stains and dirt without damaging the surface (ProCare Aluminum Cleaner from Barlow Tyrie). Do not use abrasive sponges.
