How would you define your interior?
Hélène Darroze: I like big contemporary spaces. It was a crush when I moved here, almost seven years ago. This Haussmann apartment is bright and overlooks a quiet street. I liked the row of three rooms that are not overlooked. I arranged it in my way. Today, I am in a phase where I would like to change my style and atmosphere and then I am confronted with the lack of space because I have overcrowded. The change will probably be for 2018.
Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?
Hélène Darroze: The living room with its three parts in a row.
An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?
Hélène Darroze: A large coffee table in black oak. It was designed by my cousin Henry Beck, for the apartment where I lived at the time. It can hold up to twelve people. She will always follow me. I like working on it, even if it's not very comfortable.

The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?
Hélène Darroze: This same coffee table with large velvet poufs, also custom-made. It may surprise, but that's where I like to be with my two daughters and my friends.
Your favorite color in your home?
Hélène Darroze: All the walls are white. Which will always be the case wherever I go. The other two colors are purple - curtains, carpets and cushions - as well as a few touches of red here and there. That's what I'd like to change today.
Decorations on the walls?
Hélène Darroze: Nothing hangs on the walls: the frames are on the floor or on furniture, like this picture where I am with my first daughter who had just arrived, at the opening of Connaught.
Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the House ?
Hélène Darroze: Naomi Campbell's latest book by Taschen and the portrait of a child, a snapshot of the war reporter Gilles Caron that I bought at School Galery, Olivier Castaing's gallery. More useful: a gray tablecloth from the last collection of January and a cake mold.
The kitchen, rather open or closed?
Hélène Darroze: It is closed because there are unfortunately no other possibilities. This is one of the reasons that motivates me to leave: I dream of having an open kitchen on the living room. During the week, as it is necessary to go fast, one takes the meals there but on the week-end, the place of conviviality is the coffee table of the living room.
A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends?
Hélène Darroze: From San Sebastian from where I came back this morning, I brought back tuna belly. So the dish on the thumb of the day, it will be sliced tomatoes with fleur de sel, olive oil, chopped onions and the ventrèche put on it.
And the TV, which room?
Hélène Darroze: It is not a priority and we do not look at it. My girls watch their cartoons on tablets but everything is regulated.
Do you live with music or rather in silence?
Hélène Darroze: Music is when I'm alone: I listen to classical music.
Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?
Hélène Darroze: I am very difficult. I buy only candles from Cire Trudon and sometimes I admit those from Diptyque.
Do books occupy an important place?
Hélène Darroze: I have many beautiful Taschen photo and art books like Annie Leibovitz's big book: they are placed on a very spectacular white table.
The big book of Annie Leibovitz ...
Hélène Darroze: I had in London a beautiful library (the Diamonds model) in two parts that had been designed by India Mahdavi. In Paris, I did not have the necessary space: one is now in a room that serves as office, the other in my restaurant in Paris.

Your reading of the moment?
Hélène Darroze: I read novels and sometimes autobiographies. I just finished "The Promise", a beautiful book on death that touched me a lot: I gave it to my mother. It is one of the booksellers of the Bon Marché who had recommended it to me: it was a very good advice.
Curtains, doors, shutters? What does it inspire you?
Hélène Darroze: I do not protect myself from anything. Everything is open.
What is on your bedside table?
Hélène Darroze: Books, two small medallions with a picture of each of my daughters and a small notebook where I write each night before falling asleep, which was positive in my day. I manage stress by writing!
Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?
Hélène Darroze: Yes to realize the kitchen of my dreams!
Rather orderly or messy?
Hélène Darroze: Ordered!
Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?
Hélène Darroze: I like having bouquets of flowers! I bought hydrangeas on the market in autumn colors, but I do not have time to take care of making the balconies bloom.
