Where does rapper Orelsan live?

Christophe Brachet

Interview with Aurélien Cotentin, aka Orelsan. A native of Normandy, the French rapper and director, has lived in Paris for only three years. Visit of construction site in its industrial loft of the 10th district.

It's not easy for a singer to compose without disturbing his neighbors! Orelsan needed a space large enough to accommodate both his living space and his music studio. He had to make more than fifty visits before finding the apartment of his dreams.

Located on the ground floor on the courtyard, with two windows, this former artist's studio where lived a woman painter, became his lair. He had to break everything. The best proof is the dust that was right in his collection of shoes, still all white during our visit!

Because even if for a year, our cantor procrastination, could not fully finalize the work, the site is rather on track and the housewarming should be done within two months. He only has the walls of the studio to be mounted and the last electrical connections to make. Cool and the smile in his voice, Orelsan, opened the doors of an interior in transition, probably in his image! Little rapper will become big ...

Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?

Orelsan: The living room.

Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?

Orelsan: Ragtag. Everything is mixed and put end to end: nothing really goes together! There is furniture recovered from my parents' home - the sofa, a table -, furniture bought on flea markets like these office chairs on wheels ... But now my girlfriend has moved to my home, she tries to harmonize the together.

The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?

Orelsan: A treadmill that is in the entrance! I have a hundred figurines and a lot of toys, and finally a collection of at least 1,200 books of manga. When I finish building my studio, everything will be confined to one room.

My Mangas collections, etc.

What else do you find in your library?

Orelsan: Many comics and also science fiction novels.

An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?

Orelsan: There is not one but several: the bar of the 70s with lots of mirrors - I had found it at a second-hand shop and it was my grandmother who had offered it to me; my figurine collections; other small objects like Michael Jackson's tour pass and also a lot of objects recovered from the sets of my clips (a model ship ...).

Your favorite color in your home?

Orelsan: I chose off-white, a matte black and navy blue on some walls. The studio will be all wood, but without opening, cottage style, rustic and dark: I like this natural side.

Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the maisonot ?

Orelsan: I fell for filament lamps without shades that make amber-orange light. As I see everywhere, in the decorations of new hotels, it annoys me. I hesitate to keep them.

The kitchen, rather open or closed?

Orelsan: It is open to the living room, with a bar. It is entirely tiled in subway blocks, all black and white, with shelves and a worktop in light wood such as parquet. Everything is apparent to favor a deco side.

A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends? Your specialty?

Orelsan: We will go out for dinner. Cooking is not my thing except pasta.

And the TV, which room?

Orelsan: Only one in the living room. I only watch videos or DVDs, with a predilection for French, Asian or science fiction movies.

Do you live with music or rather in silence?

Orelsan: Silently. When I put music, I can not think.

Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?

Orelsan: Rather incense. I also burn Armenian paper all day long.

Curtains, doors, shutters? What does it inspire you?

Orelsan: No need for curtains because there are no windows. I only have one blind.

What is on your bedside table?

Orelsan: Several bottles of water, books and two alarm clocks, in case one of them breaks down. Right now, I read "Vernon Subutex 2". I like Virginie Despentes.

A deco trick or storage?

Orelsan: The trick that makes my life easier is to have the washer and dryer installed right next to the dressing room. It prevents me from crossing the whole apartment with the laundry baskets!

Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?

Orelsan: Yes, a gym with a spa.

What do you miss most when you're on tour?

Orelsan: I like the cozy side of the cabin when driving, but what I miss is to be able to take baths.

Rather orderly or messy?

Orelsan: Completely messy!

Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?

Orelsan: Yes, but I forget to water the plants and they die. So I opted for cacti and succulents. Bad luck, I watered my cactus too much: it was fatal to him. I would like to install a small jungle of 1m2 near the canopy of the living room.

My cactus ...

When will the housewarming?

Orelsan: In two months ! As I am helped by a friend of the family, I should finally finish the yard ... and dust!

Your addresses or favorite brands for the home (shopping, decoration, florist, etc.)?

Orelsan: I like to find objects that are not seen everywhere: my pleasure is to go to the flea market, and then I try to find cheaper, on the site of the Good Corner and in flea markets, I do the same thing for the clothes.
