Allain Bougrain-Dubourg

Michel Pourny

His name is inseparable from the animal cause to which he devoted his life and career. VIP interview at Allain Bougrain-Dubourg, in his den on the Porte Maillot side. On the occasion of the publication of his memoirs "We have to keep walking" (La Martinière, October 2015), he gave us some small secrets.

Television man, producer, journalist and writer, Allain Bougrain-Dubourg is above all an ambassador of the animal cause. A youthful vocation that led him on a path punctuated by beautiful encounters: from Jean-Yves Cousteau to Paul-Emile Victor to the heads of state ... to Brigitte Bardot, of which he was one of the companions. President of the Bird Protection League since 1986, he is also a director of the Foundation for Biodiversity Research.

At Allain Bougrain-Dubourg, a guaranteed change of scenery: so many unusual objects brought back from journeys and bearing a history that continue to surprise the master of the place himself! The guests have only to stand and be imaginative to recognize falcon traps of Saudi Arabia, a walrus penis bone, even remnants of roasted elephant ...! If you do not want to give your tongue to the cat, then get ready! Guided tour of a maniac storage but especially passionate about DIY.

Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: The living room, the dining room. This double space is versatile. I work there more than in my office. He can offer me the necessary calm when I am alone and the friendliness at dinners.

Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: Ragtag. There is a cabinet dug in a tree trunk, a bench of Spanish monastery, a chest of drawers made for a stage set, Italian lampposts, a table made of a boat port ... In time, I am I'm obviously familiar with this setting, but I'm still so out of the way, which is the goal!

The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: I have a collection of unusual objects that I use to test at dinners with friends. They have to find out what it is and usually they can not. Yes, there are falcon traps from Saudi Arabia, walrus penis bone, charred elephant remnants and many other things, but it should not be said secret!

A collection of unusual objects.

An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: I am very attached to these objects or furniture that surround me because they all have a story but, deep down, I easily bear that they disappear. Memories are stronger in the heart than in the appearance.

Objects that all tell a story ...

Your favorite color in your home?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: In general, I have a strong preference for blue. But the wood color remains the most present. And with the diversity of my environment, we can even talk about rainbow.

Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the House ?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: A saucepan was necessary. But generally, I stick to functional, because I do not know where to store my "treasures".

The kitchen, rather open or closed?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: Closed, do not mix genres and, besides, I am a very bad cook. I prefer to prepare dishes in secret.

A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends? Your specialty?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: I go to the local fishmonger to bring back oysters and salmon. But if they arrive unexpectedly, it is safer to go to the local bistro ...

And the TV, which room?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: She is everywhere, including in the bathroom. Paradoxically, I am not a slave.

Do you live with music or rather in silence?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: When I write, Radio Classique always keeps me company.

Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: Rather candle from Durance, a company created by a childhood friend.

Curtains, doors, shutters? What does it inspire you?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: I like privacy curtains, but the windows must also open to the world.

What is on your bedside table?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: Articles to read, grapes in season and a bar of chocolate.

A deco trick or storage?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: With an Indian door, positioned in angle, I arranged a small very functional dressing. By the way, I'm sick of niches. Whenever a wall thick enough can accommodate one, I do not hesitate to drill!

Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: I am lucky to have enough space. One more room would add to the accumulation while we must instead think of the essential.

Rather orderly or messy?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: Orderly and sometimes even manic.

Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: Very often in the field, in nature, I do not force her to live in a closed apartment.

Vbones addresses or brands favorites for the house (shopping, decoration, florist, etc.)?

Allain Bougrain-Dubourg: I am addicted to Bricomarché. I even go there to see what's new in DIY because I fit the apartment myself whenever possible. And of course for candles the Durance brand.
