Gerald Dahan at the Theater of Ten Hours on November 30, 2014.
Interview without mask with Gerald Dahan. After the city life in Paris and Marseille, the charms of the forest, it is on the Seine that the humorist has chosen to settle. Boarding the barge he rented for a few months with his family.
Artist and humorist Gérald Dahan is best known for his talent as an imitator, perhaps he is even the most feared of our politicians because he has trapped more than one thanks to his phone hoaxes. At the Petit Montparnasse poster in Paris in a new show entitled "Gerald Dahan drops the masks" until March 15, 2015, he fell his to speak a little about his home ...
If he appreciates his interior where he is used to working his texts and characters, it is to better change. He does not like to be burdened with objects or furniture, let alone take root! It moves on average every year and thus gives the sensation of changing life because - professional deformation requires! - he loves to imagine the lives of the people who lived there. His last favorite - his 20th move! - led him to live with the murmur of the lapping of the Seine, on a barge but attached to the dock. Welcome aboard !
How is the interior of this houseboat arranged?
Gérald Dahan: It is very long with three rooms: there are two bedrooms. All the rest is the living space with a height of 3 meters under ceiling. The set is white and very bright with large windows.
Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?
Gérald Dahan: The huge living room in which is installed a babyfoot with a mirror ball above! I also like the lounge area with the sofa and the video projector for the movies. I built a library section that corresponds to my workspace with two desks, one is white and contemporary, the other is a large red drawing table. There is a big black and white photo of New York, which occupies the whole wall: my sweetheart found it in a gallery.

Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the House ?
Gérald Dahan: I do not like to own, I think that to possess is not to love, and it is also for me a way to respect freedom. To begin with mine. For furniture, it's the same. I buy very few and I leave them as and when I move. I can adapt to my future home but I'm not sure I want to impose furniture that I had imagined elsewhere. And then I prefer to attach myself to human beings rather than to material things. Furniture side, so I like to "clean slate" ...
Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?
Gérald Dahan: The owner of the houseboat is a bargainer. Inside you feel like in a museum and that's what I liked, even though I brought my personal touch. The sofa and the desk I bought ... I think I'll leave them when I leave.
The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?
Gérald Dahan: While visiting this barge, I cracked on the imposing baroque mirror, with rounded gildings and cherubs. It probably dates from the 18th century and must come from a castle. It is two meters wide and three meters high. Slightly inclined, it is held by wedges. It creates a view in plunge. We wonder how we managed to get him inside. Probably before the windows were laid.
Opposite, there are four red movie chairs with armrests. To have a drink with friends, we sit in front of a mirror, it's better than in front of a TV screen.

An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?
Gérald Dahan: The main living room table which belonged to my grandmother. It's sentimental. This table is a reflection of memories I like to think about often. It is simple birch and oval with extensions; around I put chairs seventies in yellow leather. I like the mix of genres.

This table is the only piece of furniture that, in twenty years, has followed me in all my moves, as well as four cubes in teak because they are very practical. They were successively library, bedside tables, and currently I have planted plants. When I'm old, I may have full furniture but I'm very selective!
What type of lighting for this huge volume?
Gérald Dahan: There are neons hidden in aluminum metal plates that give the effect of large gutters. This creates a unique atmosphere in Stanley Kubrick, mitigated by indirect lighting with lamps. In the evening, we go from the space odyssey to an English pub atmosphere.
There is also a gilded metal pendant from the 70s that I had hung. It is composed of shooting stars and ruffled comets, at the end of which are light bulbs of different colors. It's totally anachronistic. I just love it ! I like to shift the space over time so that they become one.

Your favorite color in your home?
Gérald Dahan: The White. It allows the development of everything else.
The kitchen, open or closed?
Gérald Dahan: The kitchen consists of a central work plan with a hood above. Everything is open. With us, it's open food.
A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends? Your specialty?
Gérald Dahan: We love to eat, but neither my lover nor I cook well enough to surprise the friends. As we like to please our guests by taking into account their tastes, we use a caterer if necessary. Without necessarily specify where it comes from. It amazes the guests. Sometimes I like to let them think we were able to prepare that ourselves. After I confess everything ... But the eyes of others on your gifts of impostor cook is quite exhilarating. This is what I call "A dinner almost not done".
And the TV, which room?
Gérald Dahan: I watch it on my computer or on my cell phone. Only for work. On the other hand, I am very cinephile (of science fiction); the main room is equipped with a video projector that allows me to adjust the size of the screen on the wall. It takes the place we want to give it ... Depending on the mood, mood and envy.
Do you live with music or rather in silence?
Gérald Dahan: The day is rather silence. Because as soon as I hear a music, unconsciously I start to work, I find it difficult to listen as a distraction.
Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?
Gérald Dahan: There are many candles with a preference for fruity odors.
What is on your bedside table?
Gérald Dahan: Books ! I reread comic plays from the classical repertoire to distract me. I do not get tired of style exercises. There is also my smartphone essential to my curiosity, which contributes via the net, the verification of the least thing that I think. I have a thirst for learning. It will never happen to me.
Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?
Gérald Dahan : I would like to double the current surface by an extra floor, reserved for children. A kind of giant cabin ...
Rather orderly or messy?
Gérald Dahan: A brothel organized. This is one of the reasons I like this space. This makes it possible to not feel overwhelmed ... The most messy area is where I work because I need to spread out. And also to keep things in my visual field, without being forced to put them away absolutely. I have a lot of drawings from Cabu who was a friend. We made a book together ... I always left his drawings close to me.

Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?
Gérald Dahan: Yes. I am garden, terrace, balcony, flowers, and more if affinities ... I love green plants and I put in all my interiors.
Your addresses or favorite brands for the home (shopping, decoration, florist, etc.)?
Gérald Dahan: The fleas of Saint-Ouen and also designer galleries stuck in the neighborhoods of Paris. I love to hunt.
