Where does the actress Alexandra Kazan live?
Bohemian-kitsch atmosphere at Alexandra Kazan. Interview with the actress on the occasion of the release of the book she devotes to her father "Lionel Kazan, photographer (1930-2016)" (Liénart Editions).
Impossible to not remember Alexandra Kazan as the first miss meteo of the show "Nowhere else" on Canal +. She is primarily an actress: her interior reflects her artist's sensibility. She has just finished the performances of "Shared Guard", alongside Patrick Poivre d'Arvor, who gave herself at the Théâtre des Mathurins since December 2015. The piece should go on tour at the beginning of the school year. It is for the beautiful book, which she publishes in tribute to her father who was one of the important fashion photographers from the mid-50s until the 70s, that we met her.
When one enters Alexandra Kazan, immediately imposes a taste of elsewhere, out of time: kitsch and cozy change of scenery. She lives for several years in a small house of the 19th on two floors with a flower garden of roses, near the Bois de Boulogne. If there emerges a soul, it is probably that this house has inherited a long history: Jacqueline Joubert lived there.
How did you get the idea for this book?
To read also> To succeed his photographs and to well expose them in deco
Alexandra Kazan: My father was a talented fashion photographer, but we never talked about it at home. One day, I discovered boxes of prints and, during an exhibition for the anniversary of Vogue magazine, I saw a picture signed by my father, among other prestigious signatures. So I wanted to rehabilitate his work and revive his wonderful pictures. He had photographed among others Françoise Dorléac, Romain Gary, Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve ...
So I went back in time. This book is a journey from the 50s to the early 70s: an era of elegance where women are thin, wear veil, hat and gloves. It's my eyes on this daddy photographer that I wanted to share.
"This book is also a journey from the 50s to the early 70s ..."
Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?
Alexandra Kazan: My desk. I have a whole wall with photo collages, either because they are beautiful or they moved me: a face, nudes, a landscape of nature, a movement of dance, a plant, a portrait of Nureyev, Marcello Mastroianni with Fellini ... There are also polaroids of friends and snapshots of life. It's my wall of inspiration. He defines my universe and over time, all these so different pictures have made friend-friend. They lost their original colors, as if everything had blued together.
And since I have no more room, I attack another wall! There is another one with pictures of my family - a portrait of my father and my mother, my daughter -, paintings and drawings, posters of the Cannes Film Festival, my dance diploma, a Russian icon with protective saints, engravings by Gustave Doré ... All these photos touch me, speak to me, evoke memories.
"My wall of inspiration"
What else in your office ?
Alexandra Kazan: Among the objects, there is a lamp in the shape of a camel, small candles, a globe of married, that I had mottled on a flea market and an origami flower. In furniture, I have a black Japanese furniture and to work, a desk in blond wood and bamboo, much too small.
"Candles, a globe of newlyweds I had worked on a flea market ..."
Few books in the end in this room?
Alexandra Kazan: In a lifetime, there are not so many essential books: I only kept those that matter to me. They are carefully stored in the attic, as are the texts of my shows and my plays. However, being passionate about plants, soft medicine and psychology, I keep on the shelves, at hand, all books on these topics for easy reference.
The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?
Alexandra Kazan: A friend told me one day: "At home, it's kitsch!" It is above all the atmosphere that emerges from this house, with its heterogeneous side that surprises. At one time, I had the passion of the trumeaux: I hooked Chinese paper butterflies!
Your favorite color in your home?
Alexandra Kazan: Regularly, I have fun repainting the walls! I like a wall to have a story, an experience, and to guess the successive layers. I had also taken patina classes. Even if I can put flashy keys by accessories, I favor soft atmospheres and pastel shades, as in Russian houses: blue and green gray, celadon or turquoise. When I watch old movies, I even make stills to take a picture of the detail of a color.
Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the House ?
Alexandra Kazan: I have zen house desires: at this moment, I get rid of more than I buy. My last purchase is not wildly romantic but very practical: I just bought a two-stage metal steamer. It's great: I cook all my vegetables in steam or in foil! It seems that I can even make small fluffy chocolate but I have not tried yet.
The kitchen, rather open or closed?
Alexandra Kazan: Opened. Everything is here and there. She is not practical but very pretty. I brought back from the United States, a little character who looks like a troll, whom I hung on the trumeau. Charming in his red suit, it's him, the steward responsible for monitoring closets!
In the kitchen.
A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends? Your specialty?
Alexandra Kazan: I am very good at cooking vegetables: mixed salads, broths or ratatouille. Passionate about teas, I could suggest you to taste green, black, fermented teas or Oolongs ... And if you give me time, I can also prepare a cake.
And the TV, which room?
Alexandra Kazan: In the living room. But it's in the room where I look at her the most!
Do you live with music or rather in silence?
Alexandra Kazan: For a long time, in music. Now in silence. I hate music in the background. But by car, I listen to it thoroughly. I have a passion for Vivaldi. I put in loop "Orlando furioso": it puts me in trance. Otherwise, I'm pretty old school and I listen to Dylan always with so much fun and the American singer Joni Mitchell.
Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?
Alexandra Kazan: Blow of heart for the splendid candles "Mad and Len" on sale at L'Éclaireur: "Tobacco of Amsterdam" and "Spirituelle verte". I also use those of my talented friend Katia Gortchakoff "One night at the opera". She created perfume lines inspired by the world of opera and ballet: "The Magic Flute", "Quai Voltaire", "The Swan Lake", "The Nutcracker", "The Bayadère". By our Russian origins, we have the same passion for Rudolf Nureyev. Quai Voltaire "- inspired by the place where the star dancer lived - is my favorite.
Curtains, doors, shutters? What does it inspire you?
Alexandra Kazan: I hate closed doors! As for blinds, they are dust nests. I chose curtains AM.PM with eyelets: I like to change. This winter, I chose purple velvet curtains very warm and cozy. In summer, I choose lighter materials.
A deco trick or storage?
Alexandra Kazan: My interior looks like a trailer. I like to change sets: curtains, carpets. With the cushions, I like to create spots of colors like in a flowering garden.
Cabinet atmosphere of curiosities.
What is on your bedside table?
Alexandra Kazan: Deco magazines and lots of books: "The art of inner calm", "The tree of the country Toraja" by Philippe Claudel, "The vocation" of Sophie Fontanel, "The power of joy" by Frédéric Lenoir, " The kingdom "Emmanuel Carrère," An impossible love "Christine Angot, ... All these books that I will read when I have time!
Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?
Alexandra Kazan : I would love to have a dressing room with shelves and storage for shoes, belts, hats.
Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?
Alexandra Kazan: I have a passion for trees, flowers and especially old roses. My daughter forbids me access to all the garden centers! In Normandy, I have a small field where I can not stop planting: I can spend hours and hours there.
