How does the literary journalist François Busnel live? Reply with our ping-pong interview ...
Having made literary journalism his specialty, François Busnel has managed to win successfully in the PAF through La grande librairie, a show he hosts every Thursday evening on France 5 and has been for 5 years. If he decided to interrupt Le Grand Entretien at the start of the next term on France Inter, he will continue to lead the editorial staff of Lire and to sign an editorial in The Express. A frequent traveler and lover of the United States, he has produced a series of eight documentaries about American writers. His next notebooks will be devoted to Ireland. What do we find at home? Books and libraries, of course!
Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?
François Busnel: The kitchen ! It is a large room with large windows overlooking the garden, with a central island that acts as a bar and where can be held a dozen people. I often write my articles when I'm alone, it's where I cook for friends and where we meet. I removed the doors that communicate with the two lounges, which creates a perspective, gives volume and especially, in fact the crossing point and gathering of the whole house.
Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?
François Busnel: There is everything at home except family furniture. But especially many libraries made by a local artisan of great talent ...
The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?
François Busnel: Aside from the fact that there are libraries in every room, you mean? No doubt the vaulted ceilings and exposed beams in one of the bedrooms: it gives a rather unusual feeling.
An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?
François Busnel: There is nothing I can not separate. Except my books and my cellar, maybe ... You know the beautiful sentence of Cicero: "If you have a library and a garden, you have what you need". He forgot the cellar ... That said, I have on my desk a pebble very strange shapes picked up on the beach of Dexia, Ithaca, during a report in the footsteps of Ulysses: I like to think that this stone was touched by the mythical hero, founder of literature ...
Your favorite color in your home?
François Busnel: These are not the colors but rather the decor: I have many plates in email, reported from the United States.
Your last favorite purchase for the house?
François Busnel: A new library!
The kitchen, rather open or closed?
François Busnel: open, obviously! A closed kitchen is not a real kitchen.
And the TV, which room?
François Busnel: I designed a room for a giant screen on which I show the films and documentaries I watch. TV, I hardly look at it anymore.
Do you live with music or rather in silence?
François Busnel: That depends on the day. I have no dogma. There are bases for mp3 in every living room! And a stereo in the living room, for classical music and blues.
What is on your bedside table?
François Busnel: Books.
Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?
François Busnel: No, I know how to settle for what I already have.
Rather orderly or messy?
François Busnel: Uh ... Let's say that I find myself very well in my "brothel".
Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?
François Busnel: I have a large garden, which I take care of as soon as I can. Gardening, with cooking and reading, is part of my passions.
