Mercotte: what does the kitchen of the queen of the macaroon look like?

Where does Mercotte make her gourmet recipes? The blogger, known especially for her macaroons, has opened the doors of her Savoyard house and especially her kitchen ... Interview and photos!

It is in an old building that it has completely renovated, around Chambéry that Mercotte has lived for almost fifty years. We will meet her again from the end of October on M6, alongside Cyril Lignac and Faustine Bollaert for the second season of the Best Pastry Chef.

Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?

Mercotte: My kitchen. I get up every day at 4 am to devote myself to my passion: pastry.

Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?

Mercotte: Rather old and family but I brought a touch of modernity with paintings of contemporary art. It turns out that my collection consists almost exclusively of women's paintings!

The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?

Mercotte: My house itself with its 600m2 on three levels. It is an old building half XVIth, half XVIII. Originally, it was a mansion that was turned into fruit in the early twentieth century. At the bottom of the garden, there is still a chapel. Purchased in ruins, almost fifty years ago, we restored it little by little. With its many rooms and doors in a row, there is plenty to lose.

An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?

Mercotte: The first painting I bought, in the 70's. The artist was not particularly known: she was a pupil of the German painter Jan Voss. To enhance it, I had repainted my room in white. Since then, I have enlarged my collection, especially the Lyon artist Anne Brérot.

Your favorite color in your home?

Mercotte: I love white ... white flowers. All my interior is painted white. It's easier to decorate.


Your last favorite purchase for the house?

Mercotte: A painting !

The kitchen, rather open or closed?

Mercotte: I put my kitchen in a former fruit (cheese was made there). It is a living room of 25m2, on the ground floor with exposed beams. Nice wink when you know that I am the first to defend the cheese of Savoy. It is not especially modern but very functional with a large central table for eight people, and worktops on three sides. The entrance to the house no longer serves: people cross the lawn and arrive directly to the kitchen by a double glass door with small squares.

A tip, a tip when you cook a lot like you?

Mercotte: All devices must be accessible and connected: my KitchenAid robots, turbines, coffee machines, the bread machine, not forgetting my Shock freezer cooling cell - ideal for desserts - and my ovens! There is the special macaroons oven with 3 levels, the convection oven, the microwave and a large warming drawer ... In the same way, I can access my 400 books of recipes which are spread over 3 levels in depth.


And the TV, which room?

Mercotte: I'm not a fan of TV! In my kitchen, I have a small screen in height that I can hear when I work and I have another one in a living room. The one in my room does not work anymore, so, I watch TV on Ipad ... but as I get up at 4 am, I fall asleep very quickly!

Do you live with music or rather in silence?

Mercotte: Rather in silence, except when I put France Bleu Pays de Savoie to listen sometimes my colleagues.

What is on your bedside table?

Mercotte: What to recharge my Iphone, a bottle of water, a flashlight and finally an alarm clock that projects the time to the ceiling (ideal in the middle of the night). No books because I hate to read in bed where I can not find the right position!

Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?

Mercotte: Given the size of my house, I am pretty well endowed and that's why I even turned a room in reserve for fridges and freezers. It's very useful !

Rather orderly or messy?

Mercotte: The disorder is incompatible with the art of pastry. In a general way, I arrange everything, as and when. Only my papers sometimes pile up on my desk. Every week, I put my notes and paperwork in order. This is the only little carelessness that I grant myself.

Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?

Mercotte: I have a pleasure garden with white flowers everywhere, including thoughts and roses. For the summer, I choose each year, a different color for geraniums. I also have a huge fig tree, some herbs and gooseberries but no vegetable garden.

Mercotte: They are located in the Les Halles district in Paris.
