What to do when the pipe after the meter leaks? How to avoid a salty bill? Our answers ...

I just realized that the water pipe buried in my garden after the meter has been running for some time. My bill may explode. What can I do ? "Mrs Robin, Colmar (68)

A decree published on September 24, 2012 (n ° 2012-1078) gives you an appeal. In fact, it establishes that the distributing company that sees an overconsumption of water must inform the consumer quickly, at the latest with the next invoice. If the leak is repaired by a craftsman who provides a certificate, the amount of over-billing can not exceed twice the previous average bill.

Moreover, this overconsumption will not enter into the calculation of the sanitation tax. These provisions concern leaks from the pipes located after the meter, but not those from household appliances, sanitary equipment or heating. The decree will be effective July 1, 2013, but, since its publication, you can request this limitation of billing by providing the certificate of the craftsman who repaired the leak.
