A lush English garden and a peaceful atmosphere sublimate this Victorian home located in London ... The gallerist Jimi Lee highlights its decor and design tastes for contemporary furniture and works of art of the mid-twentieth century. See for yourself.

It is in this district of Hackney that Jimi Lee and her husband Giovanni Brighi decided to buy a splendid Victorian house. The urban style of the facade leaves little to guess the soft and peaceful atmosphere that resides in this place. A kitchen overlooking the English garden, an exacerbated taste for contemporary decor and art of the twentieth century ... Here is the recipe for happiness of this beautiful couple.

Victoria Park in East London, one of the oldest green spaces in the city, is surrounded by small yellow brick Victorian houses and is home to a large lake for canoeing. The initial shabby chic style of the house was not to the taste of this couple.

"We wanted, Jimi explains, a simple and practical house, so we had all the chimneys that dictate the organization of a room removed." The couple, whose goal is to open the house on the outside and expand the basement, then calls on the architect Paul Archer.

The former winter garden is annexed to create a large kitchen gallery whose dining area is extended by a room where Hanna, the daughter of Jimi, plays the violin. A room that also serves as a guest room when the hostess receives her Japanese family or Giovanni her Italian parents.

The white harmony of the floor and the walls continues on the floors. The living room, originally divided in two, offers a beautiful library area. Few furniture, but chosen for their timeless design. Jimi, who renews the hanging in his gallery every five weeks, appreciates this soothing visual tranquility.

The openings on the garden have been modified to take advantage of the nature that is inscribed on a table. Large windows and picture windows invite contemplation. Far from Zen minimalism, plants and trees play here exuberance.

The white of the walls is so peppered by the green of the garden, a hue that we find by keys inside on the sofa or on the shutters. Wink "Pop" also with vintage school chairs and rocking Eames. In short, modern mastered, to live in family without constraint, but without erasure of the old.

It's also a great place for Jimi to showcase his collection of contemporary artists and for Giovanni to cook new recipes for the spring opening of Il Cudega, his Italian restaurant in Hackney.

In the extension of the kitchen, the dining room, opposite, also serves as office to Jimi. The sobriety of the furniture gives pride of place to the photos of Ann Hardy and Collier Schorr.
